Christmas is creeping ever closer and the pressure’s on to find the perfect gift for friends, family, partners – the cat!

The search to find something fun, meaningful, exciting and personal all bundled up in the same Merry Christmas wrapping paper can be quite a struggle, I know. Here at the Museum of London we’re already excited about what’s going on in the New Year and this got me thinking- experiences are the way to go. I’ve put together some ideas to suit a variety of different stockings, from a romantic gesture with a bit if a difference to a hidden London gem for that person who seems to have done everything.

For romantics
I’ve been asked countless times this festive season ‘what’s the right gift’ for that special someone. New relationships seem the hardest to get right – what do I spend, what do they like? Willitperfectlyrepresentmyfeelingsforthemattheexactmomenttheyopenit?? Well, tickets to our Valentine’s extravaganza Late London: City of Seduction, should hit the mark! From life drawing and scent workshops to love token making and the history of pleasure, the evening will be packed full of hands-on activities exploring London’s seductive, saucy and down-right sordid past. Combine the event with a trip to see The Cheapside Hoard: London’s Lost Jewels on the same night for an even more indulgent gift. Plus, book before 20 January 2014 and get 20% off event-only tickets using this link and entering promotion code VAL20.

For explorers
Know someone that loves exploring hidden London but seems to have done EVERYTHING? A behind-the-scenes tour of the Museum of London Archaeological Archive, located in the heart of East London, is just the gift you’re after. With themes to choose from including a dip into Shoreditch’s saucy side and a look back at Shakespeare’s London with artefacts from the Rose theatre, you’re guaranteed that they’ll find something they’ve never seen before, whether they’ve been on a tour before or not.

For creatives
Inspired by our critically acclaimed exhibition The Cheapside Hoard, London Lost Jewels, secure a space for your favourite creative someone at our exclusive Tatty Devine: make your own workshop. The evening will be run by cult London jewellery designers Tatty Devine and they’ll be able to take home a signature necklace at the end – a gift that keeps on giving! Want something even more special? Combine a workshop spot with Tatty Devine’s statement Pearly King necklace in an exclusive gift package – on sale on Tatty Devine’s website soon, keep an eye out here for details.

For history lovers
Our new season of London walks are perfect for history lovers, revealing the City of London’s past through a stroll through the streets with our knowledgeable guides. From London’s only Roman amphitheatre to the city that arose from the Blitz, there’s a variety of themes to choose from – and all under £10, bargain.
